The ‘health and wellness’ trend has been showing no of abating with a flux of clean eating bloggers and Quinoa recipes. If your customers are looking for a low-cal option there is no need to let them settle for vodka and soda.

You can still create theatre in your venue while looking after your customer’s waistlines. I’ve collected 5 of the best classic cocktails all scoring around 150 calories or less to keep everyone satisfied. Take a look and let us know what you think.

  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 4 lime wedges
  • 12.5ml simple syrup
  • 50ml white rum
  • 120ml of soda water


Muddle the lime along with the syrup in the bottom of your glass. Slap the mint leaves in the palm of your hand and add to the glass. Fill your glass with ice and add the two measures of white rum. Top up with the soda water and give it a good stir. Garnish with lime and a small sprig of mint.

Old Fashioned


  • 1 tsp (6ml) simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 50ml rye or bourbon
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • Orange peel


Rub the orange peel around the rim of an old-fashioned glass and then add to the glass along with the cherry, syrup, bitters and a few cubes of ice. Finally, add the whiskey and stir for 10-15 seconds.

  • 50ml Vodka
  • 100ml orange juice


This cocktail dates back 80 years and is incredibly simple. Add the vodka and orange to a highball glass filled with ice and stir.



  • 50ml white rum
  • 25ml lime juice
  • 10ml simple syrup


A favourite of Ernest Hemingway, all the way from 1800’s Cuba is this cocktail classic. Add all ingredients to a Boston shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass and serve.

Aquariva Margarita

  • 35ml of AquaRiva Blanco or Reposado Tequila
  • 25ml lime juice
  • 15 ml of AquaRiva Organic Agave Syrup.


Rim a chilled old-fashioned glass with orange. Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and give a good shake. Best served straight over ice.
